The Herodotou Tennis Academy was founded by Demetris Herodotou, in Larnaca in September 2004. It was officially listed as a company in December 2006 and a registered member of the Cyprus Tennis Federation from January 2007.Demetris started off by using the only tennis court available at the old G.S.Z Stadium in Larnaca for training his young players. Back in 2004 he had only four players, but The Herodotou Tennis Academy grew rapidly and now boasts 150 players, 40 of whom are national tournament players. The coaching team has also grown in proportion to the number of players and now comprises of five qualified tennis coaches and a qualified fitness coach.
Bearing in mind this rapid growth of the Academy’s membership and also the increased popularity of tennis in Cyprus due to Marcos Baghdatis’ achievements in professional tennis, a second court was acquired for the needs of the academy. This gave us the opportunity to stage internal development tournaments at least once a year. However, even this expansion was still not enough to satisfy our academy’s needs and in January 2008 we began the construction of our brand new, state of the art facilities.
By January 2009 the 1st phase of our new facilities was ready, with 5 Plexi-pave courts, 2 mini courts, 2 training walls, gym and running track. This expansion has allowed for a more complete range of tennis training, from hobby to professional level, allowing national and international players to achieve and fulfill their dreams. These new facilities have given the opportunity to host Tennis Europe and ITF tournaments, something we have successfully achieved, being the first Academy on the Island to host a Tennis Europe & ITF event.
