Petros Chrysochos won the title in Israel, in an emphatic victory over home favourite Elia Alon. The match went all the way to the wire, with Petros having to dig deep in the final set when he found himself 2-5 down. Petros, who has only just moved up to the U16s category fought back, faced a match point at 4-5 but still managed to hold on to storm 5 straight games to win the championship 7-5 in the final set.
Petros had a great tournament and when asked how he felt he said ‘I feel fantastic, and proud. After I saw the draw I was surprised to get past the 1st round let alone win the tournament.’ In the 1st round Petros beat Israels number 2 Yehonatan Kaufman 6-3 6-0. In round 2 he beat Giorgos Vakouftsis of Greece 6-1 6-1, and went 3 sets against Israel Mazor Noam 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. In the Semi finals he played Georgias number 1 seed, Giorgi Javakhishvili and brushed him aside 6-0 6-2.
The final was a closer affair as Elia Alon a much improved player won the 1st set, but failed to keep up his level in the next two sets, allowing Petros to take home the title. Congratulations!
